How Long Do Bio Bond Hair Extensions Last?

“How long will they last?” is one of the first questions every new client asks us. It’s a completely fair question — extensions are an investment, and you want to know what you’re getting.

Here’s the honest answer, broken down into two parts: how long the hair lasts, and how long the fitting lasts before a refit is needed.

How Long Does The Hair Last?

We use only 100% Russian virgin hair — and with proper care, the same hair can be reused for up to 12 months.

This is one of the key advantages of Bio Bonds. Because the bonds are removed mechanically rather than dissolved with chemicals, the hair itself stays intact. At each refit, the bonds are removed, the hair is cleaned, and everything is refitted higher up — closer to the root. You are not buying new hair at every appointment.

How long the hair actually lasts depends on:

  • Aftercare — brushing daily, plaiting at night, drying fully after washing
  • Heat styling frequency — keeping tools at 160–180°C and always using heat protector
  • Swimming and sun exposure — clarifying shampoo and deep conditioning after chlorine or salt water
  • Product use — avoiding heavy product buildup around the bonds

Clients who follow the aftercare guidance consistently get the best results from their hair over the full 12 months.

How Long Before You Need A Refit?

Most clients return for a refit every 2 to 3 months. The exact timing depends on how quickly your natural hair grows.

As your hair grows, the bonds naturally move down the hair shaft away from the root. Once they’ve moved far enough, the extensions start to look less natural and can feel less comfortable. A refit repositions everything back up closer to the root — the same hair, cleaned and refitted, looking fresh again.

Signs it’s time for a refit:

  • Bonds are visibly lower on the hair shaft
  • Extensions feel heavier or less comfortable than usual
  • The line between your natural hair and extensions is becoming more visible

Don’t leave it too long — the longer bonds sit very low on the hair, the more uncomfortable they can become. Regular refits also keep your natural hair healthier underneath.

What About The Cost Over Time?

This is worth thinking about properly. Because Bio Bonds are reusable, you are not paying for a full new set of hair at every appointment. Your refit cost covers the labour of removing, cleaning and refitting your existing hair — not replacing it.

Over 12 months, most clients have:

  • 1 initial fitting
  • 3–5 refits depending on hair growth speed

Compare this to methods where you pay for new hair at every appointment — the reusability of Bio Bonds makes them significantly better value over time.

What Shortens The Life Of Extensions?

We’d rather tell you this honestly than have you disappointed later.

  • Sleeping with wet hair — the most common cause of premature tangling and matting
  • Not brushing daily — tangles left too long become permanent
  • Heavy product buildup — especially around the bonds
  • Excessive heat above 180°C — dries the hair shaft over time
  • Aggressive bleaching — compromises the hair structure
  • Leaving refits too late — bonds sitting very low put unnecessary stress on natural hair

The Simple Summary

  • Hair lasts up to 12 months with proper care
  • Refits needed every 2–3 months
  • Same hair reused — not replaced — at each refit
  • Aftercare is simple and takes minutes a day
